Valentine’s day is just around the corner! If you’re part of a couple, it can feel like the pressure is on. But there’s no need to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on candy, flowers, and jewelry. Especially, if it’s not in the budget.
If you want to make your Valentine’s Day special without breaking the bank, here are my
Top 10 ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day on a Budget:
- Get flowers from Costco, Sam’s Club, or whatever wholesalers you have access to. So much cheaper than a fancy florist. (They even deliver to certain zip codes)
- If you want to get flowers delivered, choose to have them delivered the week of Valentine’s Day instead of ON Valentine’s day. The florist near us is even offering FREE DELIVERY if you have your order delivered 2 days before or after Valentine’s day
- Another way to save on flowers (Maybe not so much for Valentine’s Day) Instead of using large flower delivery companies like 1-800 Flower or florists.com, call up a local florist and have them make a special bouquet with what they have on hand. I have been able to brighten many friends’ and family members’ days by simply calling a florist in their local area and asking for a $20-30 bouquet to be delivered.
- Make homemade cards- use construction paper, glue, macaroni, and markers- Full Crafty Kindergartener. Make it as romantic, silly, or dirty as you want
- Purchase a discounted gift card, then use that to purchase dinner, gifts, candy or goodies for your love.
- Make dinner at home. Get all the ingredients at the store and cook a romantic dinner at home together. Extra smooches and hip grabs in the kitchen are encouraged.
- Go to dinner for Valentine’s Week instead of on the day. Way easier to get a reservation.
- Instead of the regular ol’ dinner and flowers, plan an activity together. Go scuba diving, hiking, to the museum, whatever you enjoy. Make it an adventure. It’s a lot easier to get a zipline reservation than a romantic dinner reservation on February 14th. Get adventure discounts on Groupon or Entertainment.com
- Go to the store on February 15th and stock up on all the discounted candy and snacks. (It is even a good time to stock up for Easter Baskets and school lunch snacks)
- Celebrate Valentine’s as a couple, not on Valentine’s Day. Decide together to designate your own Day of Love. Make a reservation for later in the week or month and smother each other in discounted chocolates.
- Do something romantic for your partner. Maybe he loves to golf, take him golfing. Maybe she loves a quiet bath. Keep the kids busy and create a candlelit bubble bath for her. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to just be a fancy dinner together, it’s supposed to be a day to show each other how much you love one another. And knowing what they really want, then making it happen, is real love.
Wrap-Up
Remember, Valentine’s Day should be a time to show your love that you love them, not just spend a bunch of money.
Decide what’s really important to both of you and spend your money, time, and effort on that. Heck, maybe you wanna get really crazy and get Financially Intimate- Discuss Your Financial Dreams Together. Oooo, la la.
